Nessa’s knowledge bombs #9 UX your CV and Portfolio
I cannot state how important it is to consider the end-user when putting together your portfolio and CV. A lot of the time when I review CVs they are difficult to read and feel generic.
Sending your CV and portfolio is your opportunity to stand out from the pile of CVs and portfolios. So think about how to design your CV so that it stands out and is well designed.
Most hiring managers are short on time and your CV and portfolio are one of many, so make it easy for them to scan. The hiring manager should be able to tell from a glance what you are about and what makes you special.
I have a one-liner at the top of my CV and on the homepage of my website that shows clearly what type of design leader I am.
With a portfolio, really think about how people navigate through your portfolio. It doesn’t matter if it’s a PDF or website as long as it’s easy to navigate and if you are going to have a project password-protected make sure you put the password on your CV. Also think about the content, again make each project easy to scan through, so use headings, bullet points and make it super visual so that hiring managers can quickly get the gist of the project.
