Nessa’s knowledge bombs #7 show your design process in your case studies

I often talk to designers starting out in the industry, and many of them have just come out of a course and are looking for a new role. One thing that I notice when reviewing portfolios is the tendency to focus on the final outcome but what I find missing is understanding how you got there.

Showing your design process helps hiring managers get an insight into how you think and what your process is. Don’t be afraid to add in sketches and how you iterated your ideas. Pull out quotes from your user testing to show how research informed your ideas. Design is often a scrappy process so don’t be afraid to show the scrappiness that got you to the final solution.

Nessa’s knowledge bombs are a series of short bite-size bombs of advice I have learned over the years.
