Nessa’s knowledge bombs: #3 Use UX to solve every problem

This may seem strange, but as a designer, I believe the same problem-solving skills used for user experience should be applied to all problems.

When encountering a problem with people or a task, I ask myself questions similar to those I would ask when solving a UX problem. Questions like:

  • What am I trying to achieve?

  • What is the current interaction?

  • What are the pain points?

  • Who are my stakeholders?

Then I create an action plan, try a few things, observe the result, and iterate. A key skill in solving interpersonal and process problems is to identify the issue, ensure you are solving the correct problem, and be clear on the outcome. Establishing goals is an excellent way to achieve success. As someone who is not as hands-on, this is my ultimate life hack to solve people and process issues.

Nessa’s knowledge bombs are a series of short bite-size bombs of advice that I have learned over the years.
